Reclaiming Voices

On the 5th February 2024 the Prodigal monster film went into production and our team has filmed over 38 scenes in locations in tooting, Thornton heath, east london and westminister. In the run up to this 7 therapeutic production sessions where delivered which included drama therapy exercises, guest speakers from Broadmoor hospital who gave personal accounts of their rehabilitation and lives, topical discussion over themes around mental health explored in the script and presentations over creativity and mental health.

We have worked with and employed over 60 cast and crew members including young people with mental health difficulties, young people who have been excluded from mainstream education, psychiatric patients, ex offenders, young offenders, young people who have attended sixth forms impacted by gang violence and ethnic minority artists.

During this time young people working with Lerato community initiative in notre damn estate in Clapham, a community heavily impacted by gang violence engaged in over 5 musical creation sessions, created soundtracks for the film, engaged in drama therapy exercises and have now featured on set as actors whilst also aquiring work experience with our professional sound recordist.

We have also engaged with mental health patients and commissioned them to create artwork for set design, worked with inpatients to create 3 musical tracks and gain employment as actors on our film set.
